I’m pleased that President Barack Obama has announced that Aneesh Chopra , Virginia ’s Secretary of Technology, will serve as the Chief Technology Officer.  As Chief Technology Officer, Chopra will help promote technological innovation, something President Obama has highlighted as an important goal of his administration – an important goal I share.  The administration plans to incorporate these innovations to help meet the country’s goals for job creation, reduced health care costs and homeland security.  Chopra will be an assistant to the President with the title of associate director for technology under the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Hot off the press… I have just released a new tool for consumers, the “Consumer Guide to Online Privacy.”  This Guide provides online users with some definitions of common online terms, such as “phishing” and “cookies.”  These definitions help untangle the words used in online privacy terminology.  The Guide then shows consumers how to engage privacy settings with two popular websites: a social networking site, Facebook, and the shopping site, Amazon.com.  The step-by-step instructions provide consumers with important information about how to protect their personal information while using these sites. I’ve discovered that many of us are not aware how easy it is to apply these privacy settings and protect our information.  The Guide also offers steps on how to delete cookies using several different browsers.
