that he personally knows what it feels like to have his privacy violated, when he spoke about his experience of having hackers break into his campaign’s website. Additionally President Obama announced that as part of the new White House cyber security office he will appoint a federal privacy officer “dedicated to safeguarding the privacy and civil liberties of the American people”. The appointment of a “cyber czar” and a privacy officer are examples of the Obama Administration’s leadership in recognizing that consumers need to feel safe on the Internet in order to embrace all the benefits and possibilities the Internet offers.

June is Internet Safety Month, providing an opportunity to draw attention to the need for ongoing education and consumer awareness of online safety. This month there will be a number of government, industry and non-profit organization initiatives to help further the education and awareness of consumers about online safety. As technology advances, we need to make sure consumers are informed about how to keep themselves and their children safe online. Internet Safety Month serves as an important reminder to consider the information we are putting online, and how we might be revealing more information than we intend; awareness is a major goal of the Consumer Privacy Awareness project. Consumers need to be continuously educated about how to protect themselves online; it’s one of our most important Internet safety issues

released about Facebook users shows that the number of those over the age of 55 who are active on the site has actually decreased over the past two months.  The report speculates that the boomer generation is just not as familiar with how to effectively use Facebook as a tool to stay in touch with friends and family.  BizReport Americanizing Shelley hd Old School download also suggests that some see privacy concerns as a factor in baby boomers’ diminished use of Facebook.  An interesting point – Baby boomers may not be familiar with the social terms and activities of social networking technologies, but to what extent, if any, is privacy a concern?  I’ve mentioned before how kids view privacy differently than adults, particularly when it comes to posting information and pictures online.  Perhaps some adults still feel that all the information you can potentially post about yourself on online is actually too much information?  The ability to protect personal privacy could be a factor in boomers choosing not to use social networks.  Older Internet users would benefit from gaining a  greater understanding of privacy setting tools that are available online today and using those tools to help protect their personal information.  I recently issued a Consumer Guide to Online Privacy
