Hot off the press… I have just released a new tool for consumers, the “Consumer Guide to Online Privacy.” This Guide provides online users with some definitions of common online terms, such as “phishing” and “cookies.” These definitions help untangle the words used in online privacy terminology. The Guide then shows consumers how to engage privacy settings with two popular websites: a social networking site, Facebook, and the shopping site, Amazon.com. The step-by-step instructions provide consumers with important information about how to protect their personal information while using these sites. I’ve discovered that many of us are not aware how easy it is to apply these privacy settings and protect our information.
